Project: “Shepherd’s Hut” Style Garden Office
Location: Ashburton, Devon
This shepherd’s hut-inspired garden room was designed as a flexible, year-round retreat – part office, part spare room.
Access to the site presented its own challenges: narrow pathways, tight corners, and limited working room.
The client’s brief called for more than just a workspace. They needed something fully insulated and timber-framed – comfortable through the changing seasons, and versatile enough to welcome guests when needed. It had to be well-built and designed to maximise interior space without dominating the outlook or overshadowing neighbouring gardens.
The result is a balanced structure. Its form nods to the familiar charm of the shepherd’s hut, while its footprint and proportions are carefully considered to suit the intimacy of the setting.
It’s a fine example of what can be achieved with considered materials, intelligent design, and a problem-solving mindset.
