Project: Fitted Kitchen Installation with Bespoke Kitchen Island

Location: Cornworthy, South Hams, Devon

The client had chosen a kitchen from a well-known manufacturer, which allowed me to keep costs manageable without compromising on quality. But they also wanted something more personal – a bespoke addition that would elevate the space and make it their own. The solution was a handcrafted kitchen island: simple and elegant.

My role was to interpret and realise the client’s vision. They came to me with clear ideas, and I worked closely to ensure those ideas were honoured, paying close attention to detail, proportions, and materials.

We chose a good-quality pine softwood for the island, selected for its durability, affordability, and natural grain. Once painted, it sat beautifully within the existing scheme, adding both practical workspace and a refined, bespoke feel to the room.

The result is a kitchen that feels grounded, thoughtfully finished, and quietly elegant. The island – while a relatively simple addition – brings a sense of craft and balance to the overall layout, blending seamlessly with the fitted elements to create a space that feels cohesive and timeless.

The client was delighted with the finished result – a kitchen that works hard, feels good to be in, and will stand the test of time.
